I’ve been regularly seeing a naturopathic doctor for health recommendations and acupuncture, and one of the things she recommended was to be sure I’m getting enough fiber. I was looking for ways to be sure I was getting my daily dose of fiber in my diet when Metamucil invited me to try out the Two-Week Challenge (talk about good timing!). At first I was skeptical because I associated Metamucil with my grandpa and older folks, but I became intrigued once I started reading about the benefits of psyllium fiber can have on a healthy routine and decided that I wanted to try it out. Since I’ve already created such a great meal-prep food routine for myself, I knew that I could definitely incorporate Metamucil into my day.
I received my challenge kit in the mail, and was excited to start! The kit includes both a small canister to use at home and single packets for when I’m on-the-go. Because it’s so convenient, there’s really no excuse for me to forget to take my daily fiber! What also really helped me keep track of my progress was a calendar where I could log my experiences and take some notes on how I was feeling each day. It really helped me stay on track!
Establishing A Routine
During the first couple of days of the Challenge, I was either taking my Metamucil in the morning with a glass of water or mixing it into my daily morning smoothies. I discovered quickly that for me, consistency is key. I then upped my dosage to twice per day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I would either take it after work before my gym workout or a trail run.
Week 1 Changes
After the first few days, I noticed that my stomach felt a little bloated, sometimes crampy, and I was using the bathroom regularly. Maybe TMI, sorry! But I also noticed that after about a week those side effects subsided and I was feeling much better. If I ate less healthy, salty, or oily foods, I also didn’t get the usual “blah” feeling of tiredness and sluggishness afterwards. If I’m being completely honest the first few days were a bit rough for me, and I considered stopping However, I knew that it was simply my body adjusting to the increase intake of fiber so I kept going!
Week 2 Changes
Going into week two I was feeling pretty good, and still regularly taking Metamucil twice a day. By the end of the second week, I started to feel lighter* as Metamucil traps and removes the waste that weighs me down. Overall, my digestive health just felt a lot better compared to when I first started the challenge.
The single serving packets are so easy to grab and take on the go, that it’s SO easy to always have it available when I need it!
Although it was a little rough in the beginning for me, I’m so glad I persevered and I plan to continue taking Metamucil beyond the Two-Week Challenge! If you want to try out the Metamucil Two-Week Challenge, I would definitely recommend it! You can click here to learn more about it, and I would love to hear about your experiences, too!
