BBG Bay Area / Sweat SF Meetup February

meetuppic-1A lot of people ask what BBG stands for, especially those who are new to the workout or have never heard of it before. And while the workout is intended to stand for “bikini body guide,” I really think it stands for BADASS BABES & GUYS! Because over 100 of us got together, killed our workout, and fostered a great sense of community that only burpees and a whole lot of sweat can bring!

The workout was held again at the beautiful Bay Club gymnasium, and we had so much fun with a circuit workout that included push-ups, burpees, squats, mountain climbers, and a whole lot of fun!

The day’s workout was created by Mickaela Roxas of Plants and Planks, and she took the best of Kayla Itsines’ exercises from her Sweat app, and compiled them into a full body workout. We had a great time working out together!

Special thank you to Women’s Best for sponsoring protein powder, shakers, and goodies (cookies, chocolates, wafers, BCAA’s, protein creme, and  more) for our attendees! They generously provided all of this workout fuel for 100 attendees to keep us motivated and going strong! Their protein powder and BCAA’s are the only supplements I am currently taking, and I would recommend them for everyone! We are so grateful to have them as a sponsor, and I’m so happy that our attendees got to try the products.

Also thank you to Bay Club San Francisco for their generous hospitality. For those of you who haven’t tried out the club and are local to the SF Bay Area, you totally should! It’s currently my gym (I’m a member) – and I would love to work out with you there! Also, you can join our Facebook group here, where you can download a free 3-day pass to try out the gym. The gym amenities are beautiful, including a luxurious locker room, weight room, multiple cardio rooms, as well as yoga and pilates!

Also thank you to Elizabeth Griffin for being our official event photographer! Here are some of the photos from the event! Click here for the full album!

Also thank you to Jeremy Wong of Where’s the Film Productions for the amazing video footage!

If you are interested in being notified of future events, you can head over to http://sweatsf.com/ and sign up for the mailing list!

We hope you all had fun sweating with us!

Peace, love and burpees,

Sweating Almost Every Day of the Week and Staying Clean too!

[wpvideo k4gfSIBE]

It’s taken me forever to get down a schedule of workout consistency, and it’s a question I get asked about a lot too. It’s mainly because if you’re following the BBG program, you know that there is a workout every other day, and  you’re supposed to do LISS (see definition below) on the off-days in between. So that doesn’t leave a lot of time to do any other workouts if you’re following the program to a T! However, I always crave variety in my life, so I’ve created my own plan which incorporates several other types of workouts in addition to BBG. Here’s a recap of my current schedule, where I can fit in all in without having to be crazy and work out 3x/day!

Since I’ve done both BBG 1 & 2 already, I’m going through all of the BBG 2 workouts a second time, slowly (2 workouts a week) and doing my own workouts the other days! Here’s my current schedule. I even made a video recap for you guys!

  • Sunday – BBG 2. Yesterday, was  week 18 arms. I still struggle with decline push-ups but I’m getting stronger every day, one push-up at a time!
  • Monday – I love making up my own challenges, and most of the videos you see are filmed on a Monday. Some of the things I LOVE are wall mountain climbers, swingset pikes at the park, a swiss ball, or creating variations!
  •  Tuesday – LISS. LISS = Low Intensity Steady State. i.e. slow jogging or walking. On nice days, I get outside. When it’s raining, I walk/jog inside on a treadmill.
  •  Wednesday – I try to incorporate yoga into my fitness routine. It’s helping me to manage stress, improve flexibility, and take it easy from the high intensity of Sunday, Monday and Thursday.
  • Thursday – BBG 2 workout. This Thursday I’ll be doing BBG week 18 abs! I love going through these workouts a second time, because I get a chance to perfect my form and see how I’ve gotten stronger!
  •  FridayLagree megaformer! I love it because the movements are controlled with an emphasis on proper form (and as you know, I’m really into form)!
  •  Saturday – Rest day! It’s my chance to recover, spend time with my fiancee, and catch up on laundry. I mentioned that I was trying out @persilproclean after my favorite fitness bloggers said it was rated #1 for smelly workout clothes by a leading consumer testing publication. I tried it, and it smelled good AND got my clothes super clean! (I got it at target online, where shipping is always free with a redcard. If you want to use the same $2 off coupon that I used, click here – spreading the love!) One tip for washing sports bras is to put them in a mesh lingerie bag to keep them from getting misshapen. Gotta keep my gym clothes looking nice because I hardly own any other clothes! lol

So there you have it, my week! Hope you guys get a chance to slay your workouts, try something new, get outside, or just have fun!

PS – Persil ProClean sponsored this post, but the advice, opinions, and honesty here are 100% my own!

November 8 BBG Meetup

A little rain couldn’t keep us hardcore BBG girls away from our workout today. Mickey and I had a blast sweating with all of our BBG sisters by the Conservatory of Flowers in San Francisco. Here are my favorite photos from the day! Look forward to our next meetup. Thanks for coming out everyone and for those of you who couldn’t make it, hope to see you next time!

August 23 – First Ever BBG Meetup – San Francisco!

BBG Meetup in San Francisco-6502August 23 was an epic day in San Francisco because we all had a blast at the first ever BBG Meetup hosted by Katrina England, Mickey Roxas, and I at Crissy Field! The day began with registration and networking, and we all shared laughs and made brand new friends that share the same interests!

We then all had an intense workout session led by fitness babe Katrina England. Our workout wouldn’t have been complete with burpees, jump squats, jump lunges, mountain climbers, and more. The workout left us feeling exhilarated yet great!

After that, we all sat in a circle and talked about our experiences with the BBG program. We talked about everything from knee injuries to what to do on LISS days to how to work your way into doing push-ups!

We handed out bags that were screen-printed by Mickey Roxas with KAYLAS ARMY on them! The bags included a charm bracelet that I made for the girls, a healthy snack bar, coupons from Project Juice, an awesome cold-pressed juice shop in the city, and some cream that helps with injuries. We even gave away raffle prizes to a few lucky girls!

Everyone had a great time. The biggest takeaway was the camaraderie and friendships that came out of this day.

We are really looking to the next event and hope you can join us! Please stay tuned for announcements of the next meetup.

Peace and love,

Shannon

What is LISS?

For those of you guys not on the Kayla training program, LISS is an acronym for “low intensity steady state” meaning doing cardio but not at your max capacity, such as a slow jog. If it’s done along with HIIT (high intensity interval training), it can produce the best results for weight loss and muscle definintion.

I use Classpass for my LISS days. It’s great because I can try a variety of different types of workouts. My favorites so far have been all types of dance, from hip hop to cardio dance, TRX, cardio barre, and cardio pilates. What are some of your favorite LISS workouts?

Kayla Itsines BBG 1

I am so excited to be starting the Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide (BBG) 1, a 3 month intensive workout series that is supposed to change your body and your life! We do a combination of LISS (click for definition) and HIIT in this workout program. According to Kayla, we should track our progress through a series of photos. I will be posting progress photos to track my changes! You can check them out on my instagram at @caligirlgetsfit or instagram.com/caligirlgetsfit.

Excerpt from her book:  Progress photos will be the primary measurement and your body weight will be the secondary. Although you will be tracking your weight, your full attention will be on the change in your photos. The scales do not always necessarily tell “the truth”. Consistently taken photos under the same guidelines however, will not lie.
